Alarplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that alters the width, size, and shape of the nostrils. This can be done for either cosmetic or functional reasons.

This procedure may also be recommended for patients with nostrils that are too narrow or appear pinched. The ideal candidate for alarplasty is a man or woman in good overall health who is unhappy with the size and shape of their nostrils and wish to make changes.

People with wider nostrils tend to draw attention, and these nostrils distract from their other facial features, impacting facial balance. The outer nostril wall should have a gentle curve between the nasal tip and the alar crease (where the nostril meets the face).

How Alarplasty is Performed

To narrow the nostrils, the surgeon makes an incision in what we call the ‘alar region’ where the nostrils meet the cheeks, either on the inside or the outside of the nose.

Alarplasty is a less-invasive and simpler procedure than a complete rhinoplasty and focuses exclusively on the nostrils. The idea is to reduce one or both nostrils and enhance the look, making them identical and symmetrical.

Alarplasty Recovery Time

Recovery time for an alarplasty is relatively quick compared to other facial surgeries. Your nose will be red and slightly swollen initially, but this should disappear completely in 1 to 2 weeks. Stitches will typically be removed 1 week after surgery.

Elevating your head and taking the prescribed pain medication which we will recommend following the treatment is the best way to alleviate discomfort during the recovery period.
