- Heart disease
- Sports injuries
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Enhanced healing of wounds and damaged skin
How does the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy work?
Most of us understand that healing cannot happen without the correct oxygen levels reaching the damaged tissue. Sometimes, the body needs help to obtain optimal oxygen levels.
The patient enters a total body chamber for a period of 1 – 2 hours where they receive pure oxygen and atmospheric pressure is raised and controlled by the doctor. During this period, oxygen transport by plasma is increased due to the high solubility of oxygen.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy reduces infection and cell death while maintaining and promoting tissue vitality during the healing process.
Is there any special preparation before treatment?
Only clean, light cotton clothing is permitted in the oxygen chamber. Perfumes, deodorants, wigs, jewellery and cosmetics are not allowed. It’s important to inform the doctor if before the appointment if you are taking any medication, including non-prescription drugs. Alcohol and soda is advised not to be taken at least four hours prior to treatment.
Is it safe?
As in all medical procedures, there is always some minor risk. However, this treatment has existed for many years and is considered extremely safe.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment increases the quality of life for many patients when standard medicine is not working. Although not guaranteed by any means, many medical conditions respond favourably to HBOT.
