Para los pacientes obesos es vital bajar de peso, pues tienen que tomar precauciones contra las adversas consecuencias de dicha enfermedad, como por ejemplo diabetes tipo 2, hipertensión, entre otros.

El estudio realizado con 564 personas provenientes de toda Europa, cuyo índice de masa corporal era entre 30 y 40 (el cual los hace calificar como obesos). Un tercio de los pacientes padecían de “pre-diabetes”, teniendo niveles elevados de glucosa en sangre, pero no lo suficiente para calificar como “diabetes”.

Los resultados arrojados por el estudio son muy satisfactorios. Con una dosis de 3 MG de Victoza (liraglutide), un régimen de dieta adecuado y un plan de ejercicios, el promedio de pérdida de peso fue de 7.2 kg, y en dosis de 1.2 mg, 1.8 mg and 2.4 mg hubo pérdida de peso de 4.8kg, 5.5kg y 6.3kg respectivamente. Aquellos a quienes se les administraron placebos sólo pudieron perder un promedio de 2.8 kg.

Debido a que la Victoza (liraglutide) es una droga nueva, se deben hacer estudios que duren más de 5 meses para poder establecer los riesgos/beneficios del uso de liraglutide.
